How does the composting process actually works?
compost is a collection of different organic matter such as yard trimmings, twigs, leaves and kitchen waste that have gone through the process of decomposition. If you have a compost pile that contains more brown than green material, then you can add a handful of 10-10-10 fertilizer. This adds nitrogen and accelerate the decomposition process.
Sometimes it helps to grind, chop or cut the material available into smaller pieces. This will accelerate the composting process, because the smaller pieces of material are the greater the surface.
The adequate moisture levels are important for successful composting process. It is said that the compost pile should be approximately the same amount of moisture like a sponge that been squeezed by hand. If the compost pile is too dry, then decomposition slows. You can simply add a little water to the pile during periods dry climate or at any time when a large amount of brown material has been added to help keep the process moving along.
If the compound is too wet, simply dig in and turn the pile to mix the materials and the spread of moisture. You can also add some organic materials are brown too dry to help balance things.
Sufficient oxygen is also a key element that is necessary for decomposition. Oxygen supports the breakdown of organic materials by bacteria. The oxygen supply to the compost pile is as simple as turning the compost material at the outer edges of the cell move toward the center. This also helps control odors that may develop. The pile should become every two weeks for best results.
Is bacteria and other microorganisms that do the real work involved in the composting process. With the other necessary elements in place, the bacteria can be to work to break the organic components in the compost that will benefit the organic garden.
